Behavioural Counseling

Behavioural Counseling At Ajax Vet Hospital-Mobile

At our Vet Hospital-Mobile works with the behaviour problems in dogs which range drastically; from the teething puppy who chews everything in sight to the anxious dog with a history of being abused or neglected. Sometimes the problem isn’t even primarily behavioural, but rather stems from an underlying disease process. Your veterinarian can help assess your dog and guide you toward the right course of therapy.

We offer individualized dog and cat behavioral counseling on a variety of issues including aggressive behavior and inappropriate elimination. If you are concerned about some aspect of your pet’s behavior, please contact us and request an appointment with our experienced behavioral expert.

Start Keeping a Daily Journal

No matter whom you see to help with the problem you are experiencing with your dog, we recommend that you immediately start a daily journal. Dedicate a computer file or notebook for this purpose. If you keep your journal in a word processing file on your computer, it will make it easier for you to share it with us before your consultation.

Your journal should contain the following basic information:

  1. General comments on your pets overall demeanor for that day.
  2. General comments on your overall demeanor for that day.
  3. A description of any positive events that day.
  4. General comments on your overall day (hectic, relaxed, etc.).
  5. A description of any undesirable behavior noticed, with as much detail as possible.
  6. Any additional stressors that may have occurred that day or within the previous 24 hours (vet trips, children visiting, etc.).
  7. An overall score for that day (1=very frustrating/difficult to 5=perfect).
  8. Your goal for the next day.
  9. The times that any medications or supplements, prescribed or over-the-counter, that are being given for behavioral purposes, are given.
